An elegant Louis XV style kingwood side table of refined proportions, richly mounted in gilt bronze and inset with decorative Vernis Martin style plaques.

The serpentine top is finely quarter-veneered in kingwood arranged in a geometric parquetry pattern, enclosed within a moulded gilt-bronze border. The frieze is shaped and fitted with a single drawer, centred with an oval hand-painted plaque depicting a romantic pastoral scene in the Vernis Martin manner, framed by scrolling ormolu mounts. A corresponding circular plaque decorates the reverse frieze, allowing the table to stand freely.

The shaped apron and cabriole legs are mounted with finely cast gilt-bronze appliqués, with trailing foliate mounts descending the knees and terminating in elegant sabots. The sides are similarly veneered in kingwood, framed with contrasting banding and enriched with applied ormolu ornament.

The combination of vibrant kingwood veneers, delicate painted plaques and ornate gilt mounts reflects the sophistication and decorative exuberance of the late 19th-century French Rococo revival.
