A Fine French Louis XV Style Kingwood and Marquetry Bonheur-du-Jour / Bijouterie Table
Late 19th Century.

An elegant serpentine-fronted occasional table or small bonheur-du-jour, veneered throughout in kingwood and tulipwood with intricate parquetry and floral marquetry decoration. The shaped hinged lid centred with an oval pastoral marquetry panel depicting a courting couple beneath trees in a classical landscape, framed within a parquetry ground and crossbanded border.

The lid opens to reveal a velvet-lined interior compartment, retaining its original inset mirror plate within a gilt metal frame. The frieze fitted with a single drawer, similarly inlaid with scrolling foliate marquetry and retaining original escutcheon. Raised on four slender cabriole legs, applied with finely cast gilt bronze mounts in the form of trailing foliage and terminating in sabots. The shaped undertier centred with a further floral marquetry spray and enclosed by a pierced gilt metal gallery.

Richly figured veneers throughout, with excellent colour and patina. The piece displays refined proportions and high quality craftsmanship typical of Parisian cabinet work of the late 19th century, inspired by the Louis XV period.
