A Fine Pair of Grand Tour Bronze Classical Figures on Sienna Marble Bases with Spanish Brocatelle Marble Insets,
each finely cast and patinated bronze figure depicting a classically draped maiden — one holding a writing tablet, the other a lyre — emblematic of Poetry and Music. Both lean elegantly against architectural plinths inset with panels of richly veined Spanish Brocatelle marble, surmounted by laurel wreaths symbolising victory and inspiration. The plinths rest on substantial rectangular bases of vibrant Sienna marble with finely cast bronze paw feet and acanthus supports.
Circa 1840

Condition: Excellent condition; minor age wear consistent with period, beautiful patination throughout.
This impressive pair exemplifies the refined neoclassical taste of the Grand Tour period, where travellers of the 19th century acquired works inspired by ancient Greek and Roman models. The combination of warm Sienna and richly coloured Brocatelle marble with darkly patinated bronze gives these figures both architectural presence and decorative sophistication.
