A superb pair of English Regency-period corner étagères (or open corner shelves). Constructed in Gonzalo Alves, prized for its rich figuring, serpentine shaped fronts with graceful cabriole legs and scalloped aprons, ormolu mounted on the legs and edges with decorative Rococo-style acanthus and scrollwork.
These elegant and finely crafted pieces reflect the late Georgian / early Regency aesthetic, with hints of Louis XV Rococo influence, which was fashionable during the English Regency revival of French taste.
Three shelves per unit, edged with delicate pierced brass galleries, characteristic of refined Regency craftsmanship.
Corner étagères like these were fashionable additions to refined interiors in the early 19th century, particularly in drawing rooms or libraries, often used to display porcelain, bronzes, or books. The use of gilt bronze mounts and fine veneers reflects French influence, which was widespread among English elite decorators during the Regency period.
