A Fine Pair of Royal Worcester Covered Vases, Signed Harry Davis, each ovoid vase finely painted by Harry Davis with a continuous romantic landscape depicting a castle in a wooded river valley with figures and a bridge, within a gilt tooled cartouche on an apple-green ground, enriched with raised gilt ornament, twin gilt and ram’s head side handles, and domed covers with acorn finials. The circular socle bases with gilt borders and square plinths, all lavishly heightened in burnished gilt. Both signed H. Davis to the lower right of the panels and bearing puce printed factory marks and date codes to bases.

Harry Davis (1885–1970) was one of Royal Worcester’s most celebrated artists, renowned for his delicate and atmospheric landscapes. His works from this period are considered among the finest examples of Edwardian porcelain painting.
