A Fine Pair of Chinese Hardwood Figures of Immortals
Qing Dynasty, 19th Century

A superb pair of Chinese scholar or Daoist immortal figures, each finely carved from dense, lustrous hardwood—possibly Zlitan or Hongmu. The pair is depicted in mirror-image poses, each standing on a stylized naturalistic rocky base and holding a gnarled staff in one hand while presenting a Lingzhi fungus of immortality in the other. Their flowing robes, intricately detailed beards, and serene facial expressions embody the essence of longevity and wisdom in Daoist symbolism.

The quality of carving is exceptional, with crisp, deep detailing, especially in the facial features, hands, and staff. The wood has developed a deep reddish-brown patina with a beautiful polish from age and handling.

Condition: Excellent antique condition. Minor age cracks and natural inclusions consistent with hardwood of this age. No visible restorations.
