A Pair of Late 18th Century Style Portrait Engravings Titled, Mrs Conway and Mrs Bridgewater
A decorative pair of stipple engravings with delicate hand-colouring, after late 18th-century portrait originals. The first depicting Mrs Conway, shown seated three-quarter length, wearing a pale blue gown with ruffled fichu and a plumed hat, her arms folded gracefully across her lap. The second portraying Mrs Bridgewater in profile, her softly powdered hair arranged high in the fashionable manner of the period, dressed in flowing classical drapery.
Both works are finely executed in the manner of the English stipple engravers of the late Georgian era, capturing the refined elegance and gentle modelling characteristic of the period. The subtle pastel colouring enhances the softness of the features and the romantic aesthetic associated with late 18th-century society portraiture.
Presented within a wide black verre églomisé style mount with gilt line decoration and titled in gilt lettering beneath the image. Housed in matching ornate giltwood frames carved with dense foliate and floral ornament, forming an attractive and highly decorative pair suitable for traditional or classical interiors.
