H:

A late 19th century French Cloisonné enamel and ormolu mounted covered tureen, the richly decorated cloisonné enameling with floral and foliate motifs are executed in vibrant hues of red, green, purple, turquoise, and white, all outlined in fine brass wirework. The symmetrical pattern is reminiscent of both Chinese and French decorative arts of the late 1800s. Twin ornate handles project from each side, cast in gilt bronze with stylized, possibly zoomorphic forms (suggesting dragon or lion influence), typical of high-end cloisonné work. The domed lid, similarly enameled, is crowned with a finely cast gilt bronze finial. When open, the lid reveals a gilded interior, likely gold-plated bronze or copper, which would have helped preserve contents and added to the aesthetic luxury.

When open, the lid reveals a gilded interior, likely gold-plated bronze or copper, which would have helped preserve contents and added to the aesthetic luxury. The interior is entirely gilded, polished to a reflective shine. This suggests the urn may have originally served a functional as well as decorative purpose, possibly as a sugar bowl, sweetmeat container, or ceremonial vessel. Base: It rests on a pierced gilt bronze stand with tripod legs, ornately detailed with acanthus scrollwork and classical motifs, contributing to its regal and museum-quality presence

Appears to be in excellent condition. No visible chips or cracks in the enamel Gilding remains bright and mostly untarnished Hinged lid functions properly.

Summary:

This is a museum-quality cloisonné and gilt bronze lidded urn, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship, intricate enameling, and refined ormolu work. It reflects the high decorative standards of the late 19th century, with stylistic elements drawn from both Eastern and Western traditions.
