An exceptional late 18th century / early 19th century rouge marble, bronze and ormolu mounted mantle clock depicting Psyche and Cupid. The 4 1/2 inch white enamel dial is signed Caron a Paris and flanked by two flaming torches of ormolu The base has an applied ormolu mount of Cupids arrow passing through a wreath and ribbon flanked by two ormolu mounted butterflies. The clock stands on a further ormolu base with stiff leaf and dart decoration and has fine ormolu winged paw feet. The movement is of 8 day duration and regulated by a silk suspended pendulum, striking the hours and half hours.
